Dawn (Xenogenesis, #1)Dawn by Octavia E. Butler

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

it’s about the seventh time i’ve read this trilogy, which should say a lot all by itself. but you cannot escape my blathering, bwahahhaha.

what if an alien species came to earth not to murder us all, but to make babies with us?

can’t you just see octavia butler chortling with delight when she came up with that premise?

there’s so much to love about this book. the sheer number of tropes it turns on their worn gray heads. the deep and heartfelt examination of what can be shorn (gently!) from us before we are no longer human. how our lizard brains and our rational brains still fail to coexist. how much we (as a species, possibly as individuals as well) are still in need of a good parent.

oh, nevermind my blathering. go read it. you won’t regret it. i’m adding a new blog category–“the really good shit”–just for books this good.
